Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my immigration medical be valid for? 

For Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, your medical is valid for 1 year. For the USA and UK it is valid for 6 months .


How long will my immigration medical take?

Your immigration medical will take up to 2 hours, including seeing the doctor, doing an xray and lab tests. 


Are the xray and lab tests completed at the same location as the medical exam?

Yes, the x-ray department and laboratory are on site. 


What medical information do I need to bring? 

Along with the list of items to bring for your appointment on the web page for your respective country of application, also bring a list of the names of your current medications and doses, along with any relevant medical reports, if available, for any past or present major medical conditions. 


Does OHIP cover my medical?

OHIP does not cover the fee for immigration medical exams. We will issue you a receipt at the end of your examination in case you have private insurance that will cover the examination.  


Does your office use emedical?

Yes, our office uses emedical to manage and submit medical examinations.  


Will I need to pay separately for x-ray or laboratory tests?

No. The fee at the clinic is all-inclusive and will cover both your x-ray and routine laboratory tests, as well as taxes. 


I am a refugee applicant who needs a medical. Will I be covered?

We see many refugee applicants and you will be covered by the Interim Federal Health (IFH) Program. Note that this coverage applies only for your first medical, for subsequent medicals you will not be covered by the IFH program. 


Do I need to fast for my medical examination and laboratory tests?

No, fasting is not necessary. 


Will menstruation affect my medical examination? 

No, your medical examination will not be affected if you are menstruating. 


Can I do a medical if I am pregnant?

Yes. During your appointment you will discuss with the doctor your options for how to proceed.


Do you have parking available?

There is 24 hour Green P parking conveniently located across the street from our building. The address is 1445 Bathurst Street, Toronto. It is at the southeast corner of the St. Clair and Bathurst intersection. Payment is made directly to the Toronto Parking Authority at the parking garage.


Can I book an appointment for my lab tests in advance?

We use Lifelabs to perform our lab tests, which is a company that is separate from our clinic and is run independently. The on site address of the Lab we deal with is Lifelabs is 526 St Clair Ave W, Unit 3, Toronto.  You may go to the lab on a walk in basis after seeing the doctor or book an appointment with them an hour and a half to two hours after your medical appointment time at lifelabs.com


If I reside in the US, can I do an Australian or New Zealand medical exam with your office ?

Yes, if you have difficulty getting a quick appointment in the US, we will be happy to see you in our Toronto office.
